Your First Visit

There are three ways that we at Family Travel Medicine can protect you while traveling. Through vaccination, medication, and education we provide you with the protection and information needed to travel safely and to protect yourself from illness or injury. Each travel consultation is researched and specific to you, the traveler and where you are traveling. Before your initial consultation, we ask that you provide us with:

1. A pre-travel health history
2. Updated immunization record
3. Your itinerary as to what countries you will be traveling to and in what order if you have several destinations.

All of these forms can be found in the “Forms” section on this website. It is advisable that you make your travel appointment 4-6 weeks prior to your travel, in case vaccines are necessary. It often takes 2-4 weeks from when a vaccination is given to start building immunity.

Prescriptions can not be given without a travel consult appointment; for example, medicine for motion or altitude sickness, antibiotics for gastroentertis, or prescriptions for oral typhoid vaccines.  Also, please remember that vaccines take up to three days to come in, so please don't call a week before travel to get a vaccine that day, if we don't have it in stock, for example, Japanese Encephalitis.

Any questions, please feel free to call for information @ 203-229-2010.
